Riding off the well-established line of Sony’s Bravia series HDTVs, the KDL22PX300 belongs to the smaller range of 22-inch TVs, and one of its most outstanding features is that it specially includes a PS2 as well.

This is in fact one of its most surprising features as well, since this is an industry-first to pack in a gaming console into a TV, and who better than Sony themselves to fully utilize their existing electronics technology by creating such a hybrid, combo device?

The fact that a PS2 has been built into this 22-inch BRAVIA TV does raise some interesting observations. The PS2 itself was Sony’s 2nd iteration to the ever-popular Playstation, which was released back in 2000. Succeeding the original PS1 of 1995, the PS2 was Sony’s mainstream game console until its successor the PS3 took over in 2006.

So basically with the PS2, it would be retro-gaming with hit titles between 2000-2006 such as Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and Gran Turismo 4, amongst a couple of others. Playing these classic games on TV is certainly a dandy and nostalgic feature to have, allowing retro gamers to relive some earlier gaming years with a 22-inch TV in the bedroom.

However, the fact that the Sony Bravia KDL22PX300 only includes a PS2 also means that one would just be reliving somewhat outdated technology with it. PS2 games are more than 5 years behind now, so looking at how gaming technology is developing today from contemporary gaming consoles like the PS3, Xbox, and Wii; all the way to more portable devices such as the iPad, we can safely say that this built-in PS2 is just going to have a somewhat limited niche appeal to retro gamers.

While the concept of building a gaming console into a TV is certainly remarkably creative and original of Sony, the fact that it’s only a PS2 and not a PS3 could be its main limiting factor.

Besides the built-in PS2 gaming console at its base, this 22-incher features HD 720p resolution, and has decent connectivity in the form of four HDMI ports, three USB ports, an Ethernet socket, VGA and component video ports, plus a built-in Freeview tuner. While you would not be getting Blu-ray quality, Full HD 1080p resolution on a telly of this size, HD-ready 720p is certainly good enough on its screen, and the PS2 also plays DVDs for movie-watching.

It is somewhat a pity that games on the PS2 would only appear in 480p standard definition, since they were not built to capitalize on HD 720p resolution that was not yet available during the PS2 era, and which this TV is now capable of providing.

At a price of £200 in the UK, this is a decent piece of innovative technology from Sony, though the Sony Bravia KDL22PX300 is not going to have hoards of today’s gamers queueing up just to get it. It does seem possible that Sony is experimenting with including their older PS2 technology in a TV, and possibly we might also see some other hybrid combos from them soon. Based on this idea, we could reasonably predict that Sony would make a much bigger impact on today’s market if for instance, they could pack in a PS3 into one of their larger 40+ inch BRAVIA TVs at a reasonable cost.

The appearance of Vizio XVT3D554SV at first glance is eye catching, but with further inspection, this TV has some real substance. The black bezel is very attractive; it gives the TV a stealthy look. I did a glare test on this television, and it passed with flying colors. The screen is not too reflective, so you can watch all of your shows uninterrupted.

3D Capabilities

This HDTV has 3D capabilities, but you will be required to wear special glasses. I must say the 3D on this TV was amazing. When you watch a movie, the colors are vivid, and rich with detail. This TV comes with four pairs of high quality 3D glasses, and not the old anaglyph (red-blue) ones either.

Weight

The weight of the TV is light, weighing in at 68 lbs without the stand. It makes it easy to wall-mount the television because it is so light. You can wall-mount this TV without much help, which is great for people that live alone. It weighs 76 lbs including the stand; if you prefer not to install it with the wall-mounts; you can sit it on a table.

Contrast

I only found one feature that I did not find useful. I thought the 480HZ refresh rate is not noticeable to the human eye. Some people can tell the difference, but I felt this feature was not necessary. I did notice the smart dimming feature was extremely useful in adjusting the picture quality. The LEDs in the television will turn off completely with the darker scenes, which allow you to get the deepest shades of black. It also will turn the LEDs on if here is a bright scene, so the shades of white are brighter, which gives you a better contrast.

Energy Efficient

You will save a little money on your energy bill because this LED TV is energy star certified. It only uses 160 watts of power on average, which is not bad for a larger size television. Most plasma TVs will run about 300-500 watts of power, so this set will conserve power. The Vizio XVT3D554SV HDTV has built in Wi-Fi to connect to the Internet easily. You can connect the TV to the Internet to stream movies, TV shows, pictures, and music.

Connectivity

It comes with all of the connectivity you would expect with a high end HDTV. With four HDMI inputs, two USB ports, composite, component, VGA, and an S-video input. The sound on the Vizio XVT3D554SV is not bad, but you will need to purchase external speakers if you want the full surround sound experience.
